NKS Programme Area: | NKS-R | Research Area: | Decommissioning | Report Number: | NKS-49 | Report Title: | Radioactivity in commercially available metals | Activity Acronym: | SOS-3 | Authors: | , Steen Carugati, Sigurður Emil Pálsson, Tonje Sekse, Tore Ramsøy, Sven P. Nielsen, Maija Lipponen, Antero Tiitta, Kristin Fure, Elisabeth Strålberg, Yvonne Sandell | Abstract: | Naturally occurring radioactivity in the raw materials for metal production may
give rise to small amounts of radioactivity in the final products. Other possible
radioactive sources in metals are recycled scrap from the nuclear industry and
contamination from radiation sources erroneously ending up in recyclable scrap.
A study on radioactivity levels in commercially available metals was performed.
Samples from different steel, aluminium and magnesium producers in Nordic
Countries were analysed. The results from the measurements are presented. | Publication date: | 01 Dec 2001 | ISBN: | ISBN: 87-7893-102-9 | Number of downloads: | 3703 | Download: | NKS-49.pdf |
