Nordic-SMART
Project summary
This project will provide an update to Nordic seismic hazard models. In particular, it aims at quantifying the uncertainty of the inputs to the seismic hazard analyses, which will improve the reliability of outputs. Improving the quantification of the uncertainties remains a challenge for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA; Gerstenberger et al., 2020). The project develops harmonized, low-probability seismic hazard maps, aimed at giving relevant background for the siting of future Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The work is divided into four Tasks as follows: (T1) a harmonized seismic source zoning map across national borders and a unified earthquake catalogue, (T2) developing common procedures for the estimation of the Gutenberg-Richter (GR) activity rate, (T3) providing a set of harmonized hazard model inputs for the Nordic countries, and (T4) developing an integrated Nordic hazard model.
